OUR WATER TAXI

Our vessel, the Protector, is an 8.5 meter Rayglass Protector. The Protector is a RHIB - a Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat. Powered by twin 200 horse power 4 stroke Yamaha outboard motors, she has a top speed of 45 knots but we cruise on the harbour at a comfortable 20 - 25 knots which gives us the best combination of speed, economy, and passenger comfort.

The shape of the hull combined with the inflatable pontoons gives the Protector a very comfortable ride, even when the weather cuts up rough.

The Protector is in Maritime NZ survey so has all the necessary safety gear, including life jackets, flares, locator beacon, first aid kit, fire extinguishers and more. Our qualified skippers are experienced operators with sound local knowledge of our harbour and its changing conditions.

Initially part of the Americas Cup chase boat fleet when New Zealand hosted the regatta in Auckland in 2003, after which the Protector was donated to the Dunedin Coastguard unit. The Coastguard named the boat "Dunedin Rescue" and she served the unit well until early 2022 when we took ownership of the vessel.
